Employment Law Update – April 2025

Changes to Employment Law with an Updated Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023

Changes to Employment Law

As you may or may not be aware, changes in legislations are coming into effect on 6th April 2025 with regards to the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act 2023. This change will involve parents of babies who are admitted to hospital for neonatal care before they are 28 days old, and for at least one week, will get a maximum of 12 weeks’ leave, paid at the statutory rate, in addition to maternity/paternity leave.

This change is expected to benefit approximately 60,000 new parents.

New Obligations for Employers:

  • Update policies you currently have in place in line with the current guidance.
  • For those without a policy in place, you should  create the policy inline with the current guidance.

As a result of these new changes, we strongly recommend updating your policies and have a plan of how to roll this out to your employees. If you wish to incorporate a separate policy or have any queries regarding this or any other guidance, please get in contact with us here at Amica HR.
